Excellent behaviour

My dear excursion friends!

Wasn’t the whole excursion the highlight par excellence? Although it is hard for me to decide which part of the excursion I liked best it seems that I have to come to a decision.

I had never visited a school in Great Britain before and since I want to become a teacher someday, the school visit was very interesting for me. It was fun to see all the well-dressed boys in their nice school uniforms seeming to be so well-mannered and educated. You could even find aphorisms on the walls saying something like: “Good behaviour promotes excellence”. The pupils I met were really friendly and shy at the same time. Our group was divided into two smaller groups and we could decide which lessons we wanted to attend. I decided to attend some German lessons because I had never seen an English teacher in Great Britain teaching German to English pupils.

The teacher was really good and most pupils seemed to be quite ambitious and self-disciplined. We even had the opportunity to help some pupils with their translations. We met some boys in an extra classroom and they could choose one of us to help them with their homework. Obviously the teacher had picked the best pupils in advance, sending them to our classroom first, because the more pupils came in to ask us for help the worse their texts became. Nevertheless, I liked to be there and I liked to help the pupils with their work. Actually I was thinking about an application for “assistant teaching” in Great Britain after we had left this school.

The art department of the school was extremely impressive. Not in any of the schools I have been to here in Germany have I ever seen so many very good paintings and sculptures. According to our guide – a teenager who had kindly offered us to show us the whole building – the school equipment was new. He told us that the pupils did not need to pay for any of the utensils they needed in their art classes.

All in all the day that we spent in that school was great – particularly the lunch, since it was the (only) “lunch of the week”! ;-)

At this point I would like to thank the coordinators again who made it possible to visit this school. The school visit was really very well organised. Thanks to you!

I will, however, not forget all the other nice things we did…I think I could not really say that there was something like a “highlight” because I honestly enjoyed every day and night of the whole week!
